Research Profile:

Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous benthic foraminifera and their significance in biostratigraphic correlations as well as palaeoecological and palaeobiogeographical modelization. Reconstruction of the dynamics of marine environments and sediments for different time scales using benthic foraminifera.

  • Biostratigraphic issues. Calibration of the benthic foraminiferal biozonation of Sub-Boreal, Boreal and Arctic regions along with the ammonite standard and potential for inter-regional correlations.
  • Palaeoecologic issues. Role of benthic foraminifera in understanding palaeoenvironments and proposing widespread ecostratigraphic correlations. Answer to climate stressors including sea-level changes, bottom-water temperature, as well as variations in oxygen and nutrient availabilities (based on calculation of geochemical indexes δ18O, δ13C, TOC) and others.
  • Palaeobiogeographic and paleoceanographic issues. Distinction of marine biotic provinces during the break-up of the Gondwana palaeocontinent and the early opening of the Atlantic Ocean. Evolution of marine deep-water currents together with the dispersal of widespread benthic foraminifera.
