Research Profile:

My PhD work aims at a better understanding of the response of Mediterranean terrestrial ecosystems (notably vegetation) to short-term (i.e., decadal- to centennial-scale) climate forcing superimposed on the long-term (i.e., millennial-scale) climate evolution. In particular, my research focuses on past interglacials that represent close analogues to today’s Holocene interglacial with regard to insolation forcing, such as Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 11 and 19. Deciphering the natural climate and ecosystem evolution during these interglacials can provide insight into how Holocene climate would have evolved in the near future without anthropogenic forcing. In view of these research goals, I currently carry out high-resolution pollen analyses on new core material from the iconic, ~1.3-Ma-long climate and vegetation archive of Tenaghi Philippon (Eastern Macedonia, Greece).
